The Ways of Social Justice Goes Digital

Justice

Harvard University’s political philosophy class Justice is one of the most popular online courses ever. It’s taught by Harvard philosophy professor Michael Sandel and tries to answer one essential question: What is the right thing to do?
Philosophy

Would you steal a drug that your loved one needs to survive? Is it right for the government to tax the rich more? Is it sometimes wrong to tell the truth? Can we put a price on a human life? Should the law try to regulate and promote our morality?

We face moral decisions in our everyday lives. The course turns to some great philosophers, such as Aristotle, Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham and John Locke for answers. In the process, it offers students a chance to challenge the reasoning behind the moral choices we make every day.

In the introduction of the course, Sandel says: “Philosophy estranges us from the familiar by inviting and provoking a new way of seeing. Once the familiar turns strange, it’s never quite the same again.”

The course is available on Edx.org and you can also find course videos on Youku.
